Smile design is one of the first concepts that comes to mind when aesthetic dentistry is mentioned. It is the process of giving teeth and gums whose appearance has deteriorated aesthetically a natural and beautiful look, taking into account the patient's facial shape and needs.

In smile design, a multidisciplinary treatment approach is adopted, carried out by applying many procedures together. In this process, our priority is to capture the most natural form that complements your character and facial line.

What Is Smile Design?

Smile design is an entirely personalized treatment. Every patient's aesthetic needs are different. When there is disproportion, deformity or a poor appearance in the teeth or gums at rest of the lips and while smiling, the set of procedures applied to plan and correct this disorder constitutes smile design.

The Personalized Planning Process

When determining the treatment method, factors such as the patient's facial features, gender, age and expectations are very important in addition to the condition of the teeth and gums. As a priority, it is necessary to correctly understand the patient's aesthetic expectations and accurately determine their needs. Measurements and planning are carried out on models prepared from impressions and photographs taken of the patient's mouth.

Treatment Methods Used

Today, there are several different treatment concepts applied within the scope of smile design. Orthodontic treatment, scaling, teeth whitening, laminate restorations, zirconium crowns and gum contouring are techniques that can be applied in smile design.

In the aesthetic smile design called Hollywood Smile, laminate veneers, all-ceramic porcelain crowns and zirconium crowns can be used. If there are missing teeth, they are completed with implant treatment, and all-ceramic porcelain crowns or zirconium crowns are placed on the implants.

Did you know?
To create an aesthetic smile, all-ceramic (E.max) and zirconium materials with light transmission and brightness closest to the tooth are preferred. These materials show perfect harmony with the tooth enamel.

Treatment Sessions and Completion

In general, smile design treatment is completed in 3 sessions:

  • Session 1: The stage where planning is done and, if necessary, the teeth are trimmed.
  • Session 2: The trial session. The patient approves the design, and points that neither the doctor nor the patient are satisfied with are corrected.
  • Session 3: The finishing and bonding stage.

After smile design treatment, great attention must be paid to oral hygiene and routine check-ups must not be neglected. Proper care will extend the life of your new smile.
